India has large percent of its population who are undernourished,  with is also reflected is GHI score of 27.5 — which is considered serious. **

GHI score indicates that large percent of babies and children are under-nourished resulting in higher mortality rates and stunted growth.

Conflict, climate change, and economic shocks, aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic, are the main drivers of the increase in hunger globally *. In addition, soaring prices for basic items are compounding existing pressures on food security.

Considering the above HouseofImdadiya has identified delivering food aid as one of its focus areas and works on the ground to get first hand information about those in desperate need and tries to deliver aid directly to the affected families.

Especially during Ramadhan food aid becomes all the more important and we plan to collect Zakat Al Fitra which is recommended and mandatory to be distributed in terms of Food Grains (not money / cash).

* The Washington Post reports: “The World Food Program, the branch of the United Nations responsible for delivering lifesaving food assistance, expects to need to serve 138 million people this year [2021] — more than ever in its 60-year history.

The rise in hunger is ‘due to what I call ‘the three Cs’ — conflict, covid and climate,’ said Steve Taravella, a WFP spokesman. ‘We don’t take the word ‘famine’ loosely, but with famine looming in several countries at once, we’re facing a genuine crisis.’

** In the 2021 Global Hunger Index, India ranks 101st out of the 116 countries with sufficient data to calculate 2021 GHI scores. With a score of 27.5, India has a level of hunger that is serious.
